With a shout of delight and arms outstretched, the river flow dragged the bead of water hurtling downhill. Past towering sessile oak and ash trees, careering ever south-westerly towards the Henrhyd Falls. The previous night’s rain had brought the Nant Llech River to a raging torrent, eddying over itself and the deposited rocks as it tumbled down the valley.
The water droplet let out a shout of delight as it reached the sandstone Farewell rock that forms the edge of the waterfall rockface. The shouts of joy were lost to the crashes of the river, plummeting 90 feet to the basin below. The bead soared down the vertical drop, past the space where John (Robin) Blake had crashed through into the Batcave 10 years ago in “The Dark Knight Rises”. As the waterdrop fell, the sight of a young man, kneeling eagerly in the shallow waters and rocks below, camera in hand, caught the eye for a second. The soggy, wet-matted haired man was smiling contently, his clothes still dripping after walking behind the curtain of the falls only moments ago.
A continuous, thunderous round of applause filled the valley where the water hit the rocks below with a clatter, the misty haze of spray engulfing the clearing. Momentum lost, the water bead smiled politely as it drifted idly past the young man and continued its journey along the river, the photographer still lost in his own daydream world looking up at the majesty of the waterfall.
Only Happy Days,
